Community Stages

Hello!
Thank you for your interest in the Arizona State Fair Community Stage program. Unfortunately, we have stopped taking applications at this time. If you would like to be included in the contact list for the 2013 Arizona State Fair Community Stage, please email us at communitystage@azstatefair.com. Thank you again and we hope to see you at the Fair!
Thanks,
Shannon C. Miller
Event Coordinator

1. Who can apply?
ANYONE!!! If you would like to show off your talents, you are more than welcome to apply. We try to book as many acts as possible. When we book we do it on a first come first serve basis.
2. Where can I apply to perform at the community stage? When does it open? When does it close?
You can only apply online (applications are closed for the season).
3. What personal information do we need to provide?
Name of the organization (if applicable)
- Contact name
- Mailing address (this is for all of your passes)
- Phone number
- Email address
- AESF does not sell your information and it is used solely for the purposes of the community stage.
4. Is there anything else I need to know before I fill out the application?
- Number of performers
- Number of directors, this number needs to include chaperones too.
- Number of vehicles, this number needs to be the number of vehicles used to transport the performers. We are sorry but we not able to provide passes for all parents, friends, family members, etc. coming to the performance.
- Number of equipment vehicles, these are vehicles that are used to haul equipment that will need close access to the stages. These passes are NOT for passenger vehicles.
- Number of chairs if applicable
- Number of music stands if applicable
- Your 1st and 2nd choices for when you want to perform
5. How many times can I perform at the community stage?
This will vary by year but we try to give as many people the opportunity to perform. We try to have everyone perform only once but please let us know if you would like to perform more on your application. Typically the only time someone will perform more than once is if there is a cancellation.
6. How many stages does the State Fair offer as community stages?
Because of last year’s success we will once again be having two community stages. The exact location of these stages is still pending.
7. Do we get in the Fair program?
Yes, we will put your group name in the programs that are printed for each day. However, these have to go to print well before the actual performance day (typically 3-4 weeks). Due to this, they can’t be perfect!
8. What kind of equipment does the community stage offer? (tables, chairs, microphones, etc.)
- Tables = 2 tables
- Chairs = 50 (more than this won’t fit on the stage safely)
- Music Stands = We have 35 music stands to split between our community stages. This is all that we own.
- Instruments = We provide one keyboard. This lives on one of our stages, and does not move. Please make sure you notify us if you need a keyboard.
- Microphones = 6 microphones
9. What king of sound system does the community stage provide?
- The sound system that we provide is a professional sound system. You are encouraged to leave as much of your equipment at home as possible. You can plug into our system, which is run by professional sound techs. It is better than what most of you are accustomed to. We do have CD players and can support MP3 players (iPod’s, etc)
10. How many people can be on the stage?
- This will vary depending on the type of group. Obviously, a choir can have more people on stage than an orchestra due to space. Typically, 50 people is a good rule of thumb.
11. What is the stage size? The surface?
We are still working on this but once we have an update we will let you know.
12. Are there dressing rooms? Dimensions? Floor surface?
Yes, there are dressing rooms but once we get more information about the stages and tents we will be able to give you more information.
13. Can we bring our equipment?
Instruments or sound equipment, yes. Props for a show, yes. Costumes, yes. Choral risers, chairs, large props, or anything that you will not be able to set up and take down entirely within your hour without our assistance, no. We also do not permit anything that will cause permanent damage to the stage. These include but are not limited to wet paint, screwing or nailing of nails, etc. Groups or persons that damage the stage will not be allowed to return to perform on the community stage. Ask us if you have any particular questions.
14. Can banners be hung?
Yes, as long as they are weighted and not stapled/nailed/zip tied/taped/etc. We do not provide weights.
15. What happenes if there is bad weather?
The Arizona State Fair is open rain or shine, and we expect the same of our stages! They are under tents, and rain doesn’t phase them!
16. What happens if I cancel?
-Please let us know ahead of time, so that way we can give others a chance to perform in that time slot. If credentials were mailed to you please mail them back. If you don’t send credentials back you will no longer have the chance to perform at the State Fair in future years.
17. Can we sell our CDs?
No. The sale of merchandise is not permitted on the Community Stages.
18. Do the performers get discount tickets?
No. No discounts of any sort are provided to community stage participants. We are already providing your parking and admission, you can provide the rest!
19. Do you only accept online applications?
Yes. This year we are only accepting applications online. You will not be able to mail, email, or fax in applications.
